Home Pain Management
home Solutions

Home Intravenous Pain Management can be a complex and challenging therapy. Home Solutions recognizes that thorough knowledge of pain assessment, a proper therapeutic approach, management of side effects, and recognition of individual variations in response are necessary for successful pain control.

Technological advances have allowed for continuous infusion of narcotics to be safely and effectively administered in the comfort of the patients home thus leading to an improved quality of life for those with intractable pain. Intravenous pain management is appropriate in more severe cases to help control pain associated with a variety of illness.

A portable Patient Controlled Analgesia pump (PCA) is most commonly provided.   Home Solutions has delivered care to patients utilizing various routes of administration including intravenous, intrathecal, epidural, subcutaneous and via implantable pump.

What to expect

Transitioning a patient from the hospital to home can be demanding. Home Solutions Clinical Pharmacists can assist the ordering physician in developing a proper dosing regimen for the home setting and can help with conversions of oral medications to a more central route of administration.

Prior to discharge, a hospitalized patient and/or caregiver will be contacted via phone at the bedside to provide basic information about Home Solutions services and answer any questions.

Medtronic Pump Management

Another specialty service Home Solutions can provide is the management of the Medtronic Pump.

Medtronic's intrathecal drug delivery systems are composed of two implantable components: an infusion pump and an intraspinal catheter. The pump is placed abdominally in a subcutaneous pocket, while the catheter is inserted into the intrathecal space of the spine, tunneled under the skin and connected to the pump. Medication can be delivered at constant or variable flow rates.

Home Solutions' professionally trained Registered Nurses visit the patient in the home to refill the pump and/or make dosage adjustments based on the physicians orders. Our nurses have experience in using the specialized computer necessary to program the Medtronic system
.
