Frequently Asked Question |
What is TPN?
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is a formula made for each individual to supply the fluids, nutrients and calories needed when he or she is unable to eat. The formula has been carefully calculated specific to each person's needs. A catheter is placed in the vein of the patient, this allow the TPN to be infused via an ambulatory pump.

How do we get started?
Your physician will make a referral to Home Solutions. Home Solutions will arrange a nurse to come to your home and teach you how to administer the TPN. Nursing will also visit on a weekly basis. A Home Solutions clinical pharmacist will monitor lab work and follow the care of each patient and coordinate weekly deliveries of TPN.
-
How do I store the TPN?
TPN is to be stored in the refrigerator. Remove the TPN from the refrigerator 4 to 6 hours before the infusion is to begin. This allows it to warm to room temperature. Your health care provider will instruct you on proper storage if you receiving TPN additives (such as a multivitamin).

Who
monitors TPN?
